As the weather begins to cool and the leaves start to turn, we begin to turn our attention to the movies that will be hitting the big screen in the next few months. October is always a great month for movies, and this year is no exception. Here are just a few of the movies that we can’t wait to see at Cinema Christchurch nz this October.
- AMSTERDAM
Amsterdam is upcoming in cinema Christchurch nz period mystery comedy film directed, produced and written by David O. Russell. Three friends are going on a fishing trip. They end up in Amsterdam. Set in the ’30s, it follows three friends who witness a murder, become suspects themselves, and uncover one of the most outrageous mysteries of their careers.
While the trailer provides an overview of the tone (comedic and caper-y), time period (the 1930s), and massive cast, it doesn’t reveal much about the plot.
The trailer also emphasises that the film is loosely based on true events, with a title card that reads, “a lot of this actually happened.” Following the trailer, some of the cast members take the stage to discuss how exciting it is to be in the film and how incredible it is to be working with such talented actors.
- NT LIVE 2022: STRAIGHT LINE CRAZY
The season after 2020, NT LIVE 2022: STRAIGHT LINE CRAZY, will take place. The season will showcase Ralph Fiennes (Antony & Cleopatra) leading the cast in David Hare’s (Skylight) blazing account of New York’s most powerful man, a master manipulator whose legacy changed the city forever.
Moses claimed early in his career that he wanted to give all New Yorkers easy access to the outdoors, but his motivations were revealed to be less pure over time. The screenplay by David Hare is based on Robert Caro’s biography.
This film is 2 hours and 30 minutes in length. The performances were good, as Ralph Fiennes, Alisha Bailey, Al Coppola, Samuel Barnett, Ian Kirkby, David Bromley, Dani Moseley, Mary Stillwaggon Stewart, Siobhán Cullen, Alana Maria, Guy Paul, Helen Schlesinger and Danny Webb played the lead.
- MRS. HARRIS GOES TO PARIS (2022)
Mrs Harris Goes to Paris is one of the most endearing films of the year 2022. The desire of an ordinary woman (Lesley Manville) to own a Christian Dior gown leads her on a Parisian adventure in which her unwavering spirit charms the elite people she meets.
Anthony Fabian directed and produced the historical comedy-drama film, which he co-wrote with Carroll Cartwright, Keith Thompson, and Olivia Hetreed.
This inspirational comedy film runs for 1 hour and 55 minutes. If Manville’s Mrs Ada Harris waltzed into the fitting room, asking for a “frock” with her cockney drawl, her deliciously frigid character in that film — the forbidding manager of a British fashion house and foe to Vicky Krieps’s lowborn muse — would go catatonic.
If you’re looking for a lighthearted, feel-good story, Mrs Harris Goes to Paris is the one to watch.
